Introspect

It was your first job, so, take it as a learning curve and introspect on what else you could do. Ask yourself some questions about your old job and your expectations from the new job. Hopefully, you would come to an insightful conclusion regarding your future. Once you have figured that out, you can start taking next steps to your future goals. Remember you have been fired from first job, you have a whole career ahead of you. This is just a minor bump in the road. Lick your wounds and stand upright.

It’s Okay

Remind yourself that this is not the end of the world. You are definitely not the first one to get fired. Many have gone through this and later excelled in their careers. Take some time off to process your emotions but not too long that you become comfortable in your misery. Sure, you feel a little ashamed right now but think of it as a learning opportunity. Start thinking ahead.

Have an Exit Story

This would not only help you in your next interview but would also keep your sanity in check. It’s easier to get down when you are fired from first job. People would also pester you with questions related to your job but don’t let that get to you. In fact, prepare a statement for such encounters which doesn’t reflect poorly on you or your capability. Sometimes, it is just not a good fit.

Think About your Finances

Your next order of business after getting fired from first job should be to think about your finances. How long can you survive without a full time job that pays as much as your last job? Ask your HR about any severance package that you might get or if the company owes you any other benefits. You would most likely get paid for the unused vacation days or times you came in during the holidays.

Update on Social Media

You can very subtly announce to your professional social media network that you are now seeking a job after some time. Don’t feel any shame in admitting that you are fired from first job. In fact, these are the people who can help you find your next job.
