Having that sinking feeling about Sunday ending and Monday, your archenemy is almost here! As a general thumb rule of all working professionals, Mondays are a bane. But if you, in particular, hate it so much that you are hunting for jobs, which aren’t even for you, then maybe your career needs some serious consideration.
The concept of quitting too soon exists. You may have been working in the organization for 6 months, a year or even two years, but quitting and taking up the first job that comes your way, could spell doom.
Here’s why quitting your job soon can harm your career:
The grass isn’t always greener on the other side
What if the new job is worse than the one you were stuck in? The chances are you will probably be bound by a worse new or situation of the new job because you are trying to escape the old. In desperation to run away from the current job, you listen to a convincing hiring manager and voila! You have a new job but more stress and a worse situation on hand! Before you think of switching or even hunting for a job, try to make a list of pros and cons of the job you are in, impartially. Chances are you will find more pros than cons and the cons that you do find will most likely be the kinds you can work upon.
Missing a growth opportunity
It is said a diamond is formed under immense pressure. The same way if this job has you under pressure then wait it out. Chances are you are in for eye-opening learning that you would have otherwise missed. If your boss is supportive of your developmental journey in the organization and yet you are miserable, then maybe you can have an open and honest conversation with your colleagues and boss to understand where you lack and that most likely will be the cause of your misery in that job.
Not ready yet
What if you are running towards a title, status or a higher pay package, without actually earning it? What if you are not ready for the new job and even if you still take it, it may prove to be a fatal blow to your career growth. Before you blame anyone else for your problems at work, do a thorough introspective search so as to allow yourself the space to know your own right and wrong.
Reputation at risk
Giving up in any challenging situation is the easy way out, but if you face the same issue yet again in the other organization, you aren’t well equipped to face it and this will cause your reputation some serious damage. Stick around for a few weeks or months and understand what the challenge is and what is making you disheartened or making you feel discontent. This will help you face bigger challenges in your career.
Giving up and running away is easy because it seems like the easy way out. This is not useful if you are set in an organization that only wants to see you grow.
