Broad spectrum biocide by Maxwell Additives

Oilfield microbial monitoring which is designed to tackle unchecked microbial activity can have severe consequences for oil and gas infrastructure and operations. If these problems are detected too late, system failures and operational instabilities are bound to occur. “It is estimated that microbiologically influenced corrosion may be responsible for 15-30% of failures caused by corrosion in all industries.” A corrective measure of emergency remedial action may be the only solution. The use of bactericides becomes compulsory in many cases. Poised to offer you time-tested and valued oilfield microbial monitoring, innovative laboratories at Maxwell have manufactured OLKLIN-AC-95, which is a broad-spectrum biocide.
Bactericide or biocide is an addictive or a drilling fluid commonly used to kill bacteria in oil field operations. They can also be used in water muds with natural starches and gums vulnerable to bacterial attack. They control sulfate-reducing bacteria, iron-oxidizing bacteria, slime- forming bacteria, and bacteria that attack polymers in a fracture as well as secondary recovery fluids. OLKLIN®-AC-95 is one such highly effective amine type bactericide by Maxwell Additives used for oil field operations. A typical approach is to enumerate microbial cells in the bulk phase, treating the presence of sulfate-reducing bacteria as a key indicator of potential problems. The main purpose of using OLKLIN –AC-95 is to inhibit/control oil field-specific bacteria. These troublesome microbiological growths can cause a number of problems such as plugging of pipelines and equipment, reduced system capacity, corro¬sion, etc.

Corporate specifications for oil field chemicals include:
– The form of the material should be as a homogeneous free-flowing liquid at 24±2 °C, and free from visible impurities.
– The Turbidity of the Neat Sample, NTU should be a maximum of 3.0
– Complete Miscibility of 1% (w/v) Sample in Fine Filtered Injection Water should be there.
– Compatibility Test of maximum one bactericide amine type, the turbidity of the Filtered Injection Water treated with Other Water Injection Chemical available in the asset/Basin when mixed with 100 ppm of Bactericide Sample, NTU.
– At Thermal Stability Test, a broad-spectrum biocide should be stable up to ± 5 °C
When testing for functional groups, the Aldehyde Group Test (Schiff s Tollens Test) should be Positive and the Amine Group Test (Nitrous acid Test) should be negative.

Bactericide which is a homogenous free-flowing liquid is high in demand by the Oil industry and Petroleum refineries. It is manufactured by experts like Maxwell additives where it is tested for quality through a Compatibility Test, Thermal Stability Test, Performance Test (On Sulphate reducing Bacteria / Aerobic Bacteria). You can obtain it at economical prices Bactericide in tamper-proof packing in New HDPE barrels containing 200 kg net. The material is finest at Type 2.A Class L. and capacity 220 Lts of 6312 IMDG mark. Maxwell additive Pvt Ltd. Products for oil field applications are available in a whole range of packaging types including 200L drums and 1000L IBC’s.

Maxwell additives certify that the broad-spectrum bactericide supplied is stable during storage and transit and that it does not require any gas blanket in storage. They certify to offer quaternary Amine Type Bactericide as per the needs of the industry.

While the performance test, on Sulphate reducing Bacteria, none of the bottles should show blackening till the end of the incubation period. At the start of the test the Sample Bactericide at 100 mg/litre concentration in duplicate bottles, should be insulated with Sulphate Reducing Bacteria challenge i.e 1% Inoculum taken from a fully grown culture. (Test Solution contain = 8.9 ml Sterile Injected Water + 1.0 ml (1000 mg /1 litre). Sample Solution + 0.1 ml Culture. Serial Dilution up to 10-4dilution of the Sample taken from each end of 4-hour Contact time. Incubation should be carried out for 28 days. This sort of test to check the performance should be carried out at 35 ± 1 °C and atmospheric pressure.

On Aerobic Bacteria, none of the bottles should show turbidity till the end of the incubation period. At the start of the test, the Sample Bactericide at 100 mg/litre concentration in duplicate bottles should be insulated with Aerobic Bacteria challenge, i. e. 1% Inoculum taken from a fully grown culture, (Test Solution contains 8.9 ml Sterile Injection Water + 1.0 ml (1000 mg/litre) Sample Solution + 1.0 ml Culture. Serial Dilution up to 10-4 dilution of the sample taken from each of these bottles should be carried out at the end of 4 hours Contact Time. The period of incubation should be four days (96 hours). This kind of performance test should be carried out at 35±1o °C and atmospheric pressure.

Drilling oil wells require high quality and reliable products. The choices for Bactericide are limited, and there one you must be careful to find effective Biocides yet approved by governments and by company policy. Maxwell additives is an ISO 9001:2008 accredited company with an experienced technical team. They provide the highest quality chemicals used in Process Water Treatment and Scale Cleaning. Total Quality Assurance specialists with experience of over thirty years, work to develop detailed monitoring programs that are tailored to suit your systems.
As a broad-spectrum biocide, OLKLIN-AC-95 can be applied in upstream as well as midstream applications. It contains powerful quaternary ammonium compounds as amines, and other additives to support the effectiveness, which are known for their effectiveness on the microbes.

Some of the critical advantages of using this biocide include:
1. Controlled bacterial growth particularly Sulfate Reducing Bacteria (SRB)
2. Corrosion/erosion occurred due to SRB is prevented
3. Compatibility with all other oil field chemicals as OLKLIN-AC-95 is effective over a broad pH range.
4. OLKLIN-AC-95 prevents the development of bad fouling odor
5. The nature of a Biocide amine is to be stable during storage and transit. It does not require any gas blanket in storage, and the surface is acetic amine type, devoid of impurities. OLKLIN-AC-95 as a biocide amine is highly effective.
6. OLKLIN-AC-95 contains powerful QUAT components & other additives.
7. It prevents corrosion.
In petroleum engineering, if we have to make a choice for a bactericide in oil field operations, OLKLIN-AC-95 makes a good broad-based biocide. If you do find yourself in a sticky situation fighting the microorganism and unwanted bacteria, the corporate specifications for packaging, performance tests, and quality standards listed above, should act as checkpoints before you take us for our word. With the invention of OLKLIN-AC-95, oil field operations can be expected to be less troublesome, and more efficient. Here is hoping that Maxwell Additives will continue to manufacture more such biocides that ease oil and gas operations.
