We all have bad days, in life and at work. Sometimes bad days at work can stretch longer than usual. In times like this, everything at the workplace can seem negative. Enveloped in dark clouds, you might want to quit. But maybe you should pause for a while and give it some thought. Before quitting your job, ask yourself certain questions.
Three Questions to ask yourself before quitting your job:
Am I easily distracted?
No matter how much you love the idea of working in remote locations or some fancy cafe, sometimes you need to be realistic about your expectations. Yes, watching people working in beautiful locations on their Instagram stories can be very tempting. But please understand that you signed up for a role and you need to do justice to your work. Another side of the story is that if you are spending way too much time reading articles, watching stories, or posts that seem to be fun, your job is probably not engaging enough. You must ask yourself if you are easily distracted or are you dreaming about being somewhere else. In both cases, something is wrong.
What is making me unhappy at work?
It can be anything – the work, the people, the location, or the boss, that is making you unhappy. But you need to figure out if it is a temporary or a permanent situation. We all hit rough patches and so do the companies or businesses. For instance, if the company is going through a bad time, the revenues are not adding up, it can be a stressful situation for everyone. From the CEO to the receptionist. Amid this background, unhappiness is natural. Instead of being sad about it, you can keep your morale high, focus better on your work, and encourage others as well to stand by the company in hard times. This too shall pass. If you are unhappy with your job role, it’s always better to discuss the choices with your boss. Managers are usually open to the idea of modifying job roles if you are not satisfied with your work profile.

Is it my salary that I am concerned about?
Financial security is important and it certainly makes people vulnerable. If everything at work is going fine but your salary keeps you in constant worry, it is a red flag. Because all you are able to do with your salary at the moment is to pay your bills. One is truly empowered when one has the financial freedom to make some choices. If you are concerned about your salary, having a candid discussion with your manager is recommended. Because everything else at work is as per your liking. If you have a boss who is not open to such conversations and you are struggling with your salary, I would suggest you start considering your options. And you need not feel guilty about it at all.
