You have emailed your resignation letter to your boss and you have set foot in the office for your last day at work. Now what? No, you don’t have to rub into your coworkers’ faces and create a ruckus on your last day
You are wondering what to do on your last day at work, here are some suggestions:
Hand offs

Before you leave for that amazing job that you have been looking forward to in your notice period, hand off all the projects that you are working on smoothly. On your last day at work, you don’t want any confusion or want your coworkers to call you up at your new office after a week. So, brief them clearly and transfer all the relevant files to your team members. To make it easier for your department to run smoothly in your absence, it is important that you don’t keep any minute details from them.
Clean sweep
It is also important that you do not leave any digital footprints. Give your computer passwords to the team and wipe your computer off. Obviously, keep the documents even remotely useful for the ongoing projects securely on a cloud and give access to others before you leave. To make your transition go smoother and avoid those dreadful calls from your coworkers days after you have left, it’s a must. Leave this for your last day at work after you have handed over all the details to your team.
Collect your contacts

Your professional contacts are your capital that you have gained over the years. Get a list of your vendors, Linkedin connections, or any connections that you made along the way. Carry them with you to your new job and you never know who might come in handy. Send emails to your contact on your last day at work informing that you are leaving for another opportunity. It would also be a great idea to update your contact from all the email footers or any digital signature that you might have.
Exit interview
Ask for an exit interview if you have any feedback to give or anything you might want to have said before you left for good. On your last day at work, get it all out. Don’t burn any bridges though because you might get a chance to work with them again. Some employees even come back to their old jobs. So, you always need to end on a cheerful note with you coworkers.
Farewell email
If your company doesn’t take exit interviews, remember to write a farewell email to your boss or coworkers that you want to thank who made things easier for you. If you were heading any team, write an email to your team members as well encouraging them and thanking them for their contribution.
Prepare yourself
Brace yourself mentally for the new job. Sign off on a great note with your employer and other coworkers. Begin packing your desk, remember to take your personal gifts and any other personal item from your desk. Whatever is not your own stays. Wrap things up weeks in advance, you don’t want to leave anything to the last minute.
Personal goodbyes

There must be some office favorites who you would like to say your final goodbyes to. Take them out to lunch and personally greet your coworkers one last time. It is always a great idea to say goodbyes on your last day at work to everyone in the office.
While it might be an emotional time for you, it’s also a reason for celebration, don’t forget to have fun on your last day at work.
