Who doesn’t get excited at a job offer? Particularly, if the job offers all that you wanted – a good brand, decent pay, and a strong profile. But starting a new job is much more than that. Company Goals

Most often we take an organization’s vision and mission on face value. No matter how excited you are because the job sounds great, you need to care about what your company is hoping to achieve. Doing thorough company research is very important and that goes beyond the information that is available on its official website. Once I had received a really good job offer, perfectly in harmony with what I wanted to do. Everything seemed fine until I connected with the former employees of the company on LinkedIn. After getting some insights from them, I realized it was not what I was looking for. I had to turn down the offer but yes, I did it very politely. So, it’s important that you dig deeper into the details, check company reviews on Glassdoor, connect with people who are familiar with the organization. It will help you make an informed decision.

Fewer chances of growth

Will this new job empower you to enhance your skills?

Or is it just an extension of what you are already doing?

Do you see any opportunity of taking up more responsibilities in the new job?

The point of asking these questions to yourself is that the new job should add substantial value to your existing profile. Your resume needs to get better with time and not reflect any stagnancy. If there’s no room to grow, boredom is just around the corner. And very soon, you will start hunting for another job. So before you accept the job offer, make sure you have considered all the aspects.

Salary

It is true that millennials are not just concerned about the annual salary package in the present times. True job satisfaction goes beyond a handsome package.

Even though money is not the ultimate factor of consideration, financial empowerment is important. Corporates are infamous for deriving the maximum with less. They try to keep their employees at lesser pays, knowing that their brand name is validation enough. If the salary does not help you support your family or yourself, it does not make much sense. Try negotiating while in the job offer phase and if it does not turn out to be what you expected, start looking for better alternatives.

Remember, it’s perfectly alright if you have reasons to decline a job offer. If you must turn down one, do it politely and gracefully!
