This is not a survival guide for your new job. You are on your own, sorry. Not really, I am going to give you some tips to rock your first day at a job. Although I cannot guarantee that you would become an office favorite but it would definitely make the transition smoother and help you fit in.
Always dress for the job part that you have been hired for. Even if you are unaware of the dress code, dress sharp or be overdressed but never undress. Your fellow workers would most likely make their opinion of you and their first impression based on this first day. If you are dressed professionally they would think that you are serious about working. You are not only to impress your employer but also your coworkers.

Never be late on your first day at a job. That should be obvious but people make this mistake of getting the timing wrong. Your best bet is to arrive earlier than required. Plan your commute in advance so you cannot be late. Some counselors also suggest that you arrive early and leave late but you don’t need to one-up your employees either.
You would want to convey that you are happy to be there. A smile would help you achieve that and it is also the best way to greet if you don’t know them already. Be professional in your mannerisms and demeanour. Your coworkers would notice this and welcome your presence in the office. Take the initiative to introduce yourself which would also instill some confidence in you.

Come prepared with your research on the company and what they do on your first day at a job. Learn about the company’s goals, values, products, etc. before your first day. Keep your eyes and ears open, keep a notebook to write down everything that you learn about your new company.
Listen and absorb
If you feel unsure about your role and any task, feel free to ask. Everybody has their first day at a job, nobody can know everything and your employer would encourage your inquisitiveness. Listen to your supervisor and you should note down what they say lest you forget. Although hand holding is discouraged in the modern workplace, it is okay to get some feedback on the task as you go along. You need to demonstrate that you can quickly absorb and make adjustments based on your feedback. Always ask for deadlines for the task assigned, so you can plan your schedule accordingly.

Work on achievable goals
It’s your first day at a job, you just got here. You don’t have to prove to anyone else by taking a mammoth of a task on your first day and not be able to complete it. Work on small achievable goals that are good enough for a day’s work and refine it.
