How to Survive a Career Transition

Just like your life, your career also goes through transitions. There is a learning opportunity right there. The various forms of career transition would make you tougher and ready for the next challenge in both your career and life. You will learn ways to come back stronger every time until you are ready to embrace whatever life throws at you.

Here is how to survive the different types of career transition:

First time you are fired

The first time you are fired, you would be clueless what to do next. You might even feel demotivated to find work again. For some people, it hits them hard. Getting fired would seem like the worst thing in the world. Remind yourself that this is not the end of the world. You would get recruited again if you bounce back fast. Take it as a learning curve and realise almost everyone goes through this once in their lives. People have excelled later in their lives after getting fired.

You are unhappy at work

The most dreadful career transition is when you feel that you are stuck at a dead-end job. It’s easier to get in but difficult to rise up. When you are unhappy at work, you would also feel less motivated to work and would eventually want to quit. But before you do that, introspect and think about your finances. Spend time on upskilling yourself. Become indispensable to any company that would like to hire you. Continue to work on building your personal brand. When you are confident to make that career transition, leave that dead-end job which is going nowhere. Instead, go where your new skills would be appreciated and you feel more fulfilled by your new job.

You are moving to a new career

The biggest and life-changing career transition is when you decide to take that leap of faith and decide to change your career. Some people get tired of the job profile that they thought they were trained for and move on to venture new opportunities. Even relocation and moving to a new city for a job is a significant career transition.

When opportunities come a-knocking

When you think of your career transition, one very important career transition is when you are faced with life-changing opportunities. In your life, some changes would be really unexpected and not all are bad news. So, grab them by both the hands. Calculate wisely which change is really good for your career. What really helps you grow both personally and professionally!

In the end, remember any career transition can be both – a bad or a good thing. Remember to turn them into learning opportunities and it wouldn’t all be in vain.
