what to do after work
As Anne Lamott says, “Here’s the true secret of life: We mostly do everything over and over. In the morning, we let the dogs out, make coffee, read the paper, help whoever is around get ready for the day. We do our work. In the afternoon, if we have left, we come home, put down our keys and satchels, let the dogs out, take off constrictive clothing, make a drink or put water on for tea, toast the leftover bit of scone. I love ritual and repetition. Without them, I would be a balloon with a slow leak.” Rituals are good. Rituals are necessary and for most of us, work is the only constant routine that we religiously follow or have to follow. But there is a lot of time still left in the day after work. After all, your work alone should not define you. If you want to have a great work-life balance, it is also important to figure out how you spend your time after work.
I cannot emphasize this enough how important working out is for your well being. You are filled with this unexplainable productivity drive, your efficiency increases and you ace at your work life too.
They invest in their hobbies. There are myriad of things that you are passionate about or interest you. Also, it is not that difficult to find a hobby if you do not already have one. Investing in your hobbies add a new dimension to your personality. Hobbies also make you an interesting person because nobody wishes to be the office dud.
You do not necessarily need to be working on any task for your personal development. Sometimes, the best way to de-stress and get back to your life is to sit quietly. Another cliché advice is to meditate. Be alone with your thoughts and let your mind wander.
Just as much the morning routine is important for some discipline, a perfect evening routine ends your day the right way.
Take a nature’s retreat to unwind and unplug every once in a while. Do you remember that sweet November when you wanted to smell that flower? But you could not because you did not have the time. Take a personal day or go on a vacation.
When you are stuck in a rut of your work life, it is much harder to gain fresher perspectives. You can spend your time after work to try new things and you will be amazed at the inspiration you can get at the most unexpected places.
Your work-life keeps you disciplined but it is all about finding magic in the mundane. Make the most of your time after work. Remember, your work is not everything.
