How to tackle job search stress?

Job search is not easy. Everyone knows it. Be it an experienced professional, or a fresher entering the ‘real world’; all of us someday and somehow felt anxiety while looking for a job. Job search stress is as physical as it gets.

Dr. Hans Seyle, who dedicated his life working towards stress management, said that “It’s not stress that kills us; it is our reaction to it.” And that is true in all its entirety. We must acknowledge the impact stress has on our decision-making process, and find ways to prevent it.

Let’s look at 4 amazing practices that’ll help you counter the job search stress!

  • Networking is the key!

Often while looking for a job, we tend to get isolated. This is especially true for freshers, who are still in college. We see others getting jobs, and start underestimating ourselves. Overthinking adds to the list.

But a tried and tested method to avoid this situation is Networking. This will not only increase your confidence, and help you gain knowledge, but will also polish your soft skills. Understand that people build a business, and business creates jobs.

When you network, your connections grow and the chances of you finding a job increase manifold!

  • Stay Focused

The first thing that happens when we are under stress is that we lose focus. We get distracted easily, and cannot keep track of anything. Tasks start to pile up and we stress more.

An extremely easy approach to solve this problem is to set up a schedule. Plan small targets for the day, and strategize your workflow. Complete one task at a time, and take a small break. Then jump onto another.

When you see tasks disappearing from your to-do list, you’ll find the motivation to complete the rest of them.

  • Understanding Rejection

Rejection comes naturally when we are under stress. Any recruiter would shy away from hiring de-motivated people.

When we walk into an interview, confidence is the one thing we shouldn’t forget to wear. Even if you are rejected, don’t mourn over it. Comprehend that you’re not going to land each position you go for. Transform frustrations into a driving force, instead of stressing over it.

Don’t let rejection get the best of you.

  • Manage your finances!

A very common problem that anyone faces during their job quest is the financial burden. We start worrying on every single buck that slips out of our pocket. When the bills start coming in, stress comes naturally. Situations like these are easy to handle when you are calm and stable. However, for a person under stress, situations like these become hard to address.

A simple step towards managing your finances is putting everything on paper. All your source of expenses, funds required for your non-essentials. This will give you a clear picture of what needs to be dropped for some time, and where even a small expenditure will save the day.

You have to address your finances, and you have to do it in a proper manner.

Learn how to shine at personal interviews by avoiding the ‘don’ts’ during interviews.

There are many more things on the list such as Yoga, engaging in a sporting activity that can help you avoid stress. Stress will only overburden you, and make things a lot tougher than they already are.

Please understand that your job search, by and large, would be slightly stressful. But it is totally up to you to not let it become a dreadful experience. At any point in time, you can take a step back and evaluate whether you’re making this whole process harder than it needs to be. Remember to always stay humble and kind.

Your attitude will always dictate where you are going to end up in life.

Don’t stress and sparkle all the way!
