Plan your first day
Plan your first day
Declutter your mind of trivialities, have everything ready that you would need the first thing in the morning. Lay your ironed clothes out on a hanger. If you are not so sure about the dress code of the new office, it’s better to be overdressed than dressing down for your new job. Do your homework, plan your next day in advance. Leave early to beat the traffic and avoid the embarrassment of arriving late. Focus your first day on making connections with your new co-workers.
Ask the dumb questions
If you have trouble understanding your tasks, ask the dumb questions, don’t let the newness be so daunting. Everyone feels those new job jitters and that might stop you from being your true self. Get out of your comfort zone to make the office as accessible to you as possible. Your new job is a learning curve and your boss might be empathetic to you but handholding is looked down upon in the modern workplace. So, try to learn as much and as fast as possible. Like a sponge absorb as much information as possible.
Be more social
Mingle with your co-workers
Build real relationships with your co-workers. Do things with them, have lunch together, mingle with your team members. You can learn a lot about your company and co-workers in this way. This also helps build those lasting connections and make you more understanding of them. This would make your new job jitters go away and help you relax making you feel less uptight. Don’t be shy about approaching people, greet them with a smile and be warm and welcoming. Don’t wait for them to come to you.
Shrug the holier than thou attitude
Listen and absorb
It’s your new job and despite the new job jitters you would want to hit the ground running but don’t be so eager to prove yourself either. You might be more prone to make mistakes that way. You are dipping your toes in the water, this is a new environment and a new organization. Focus on learning and absorbing as much as possible without stepping on anyone’s toes. Let your co-workers do the talking and try to understand the company culture and how it works before you suggest making any changes.
Follow these tips to make your new job more enjoyable and less nerve-wracking. You would soon find those bouts of new job jitters would go away and you will fit in effortlessly at your new job. It may take some time before you feel settled at your new job meanwhile inculcate these habits to make it a little easier for you.
