Moving on is life. And gracefully moving on is what makes life beautiful. Now when you have decided to take the next step in your career, it’s time to leave your current job on good terms. One of the ways is making the most of your last day at work. Now when you have already submitted your resignation and served the notice period, there’s absolutely no need to rush.

It’s difficult for any organization to find a replacement so soon. It would be wonderful if you could recommend someone for the role or find a good replacement while serving the notice period. Otherwise, on the last day at work, you should transfer your knowledge to someone in the team (as decided by the management). The company will appreciate this. Remember, it takes a lot of time and investment to train an employee. Just like they invested in you, make sure you offer help before you leave.
From a sim card to a laptop, submit all the company’s resources you have been using while being in the job. It won’t look good if the management has to request you for the same. Before submitting, make sure you have cleared all personal data from the systems. In addition, if you were handling any financial accounts, submit all the details and password too.
The concept of exit interviews was not very popular earlier but lately, it is gaining ground. If you were not asked for an exit interview during the notice period, you can request for one. Requesting an exit interview on the last day at work can really help both – you and your employer. For you, it is an opportunity to explain what wasn’t working and also express gratitude for all that you learned. It will help your management understand how they can improve things for times ahead. But yes, be mindful of what you say. I would suggest, maintain a positive tone. You never know when you would cross paths again.
On your last day at work, make your co-workers feel how much you enjoyed working with them. If had already developed strong work relationships, this step should come naturally. End your journey on a good note by thanking them for being supportive all the while. It would be great if you can take them all out on lunch and share your journey with them.
