How To Make A Great First Impression At Work

Starting a new job is not easy and on top of that you want to make your presence count on your first day at a job. It can definitely be nerve-wracking and you are probably getting those new job jitters. First impression at work is very crucial. Your co-workers would definitely be judging you on your first day.

Here’s how you can make a great impression on your first day at a job

Great Attitude

This is the first time you would be meeting all your co-workers. More important than that, you want to make an impression on your boss. Let your personality shine through your positive attitude. You are excited to be there even when you are a little anxious inside.

Arrive early, leave late

To make that great first impression at work, arrive early and leave late. Arrive before everyone comes in and greet them gracefully. These are the small things but they make a great impact. For your first day, you may also want to leave a little late. For your first, don’t keep looking at the clock and spend a little more time than usual to make a great first impression at work.

Socialise and mingle

Make some friends but take your time.

Learn everyone’s names quickly. You can also ask them what they do at their work. Understand their roles and responsibilities. Spend extra time knowing your team members because these are the people you will be spending most of your time with.

Ask away

While making a great first impression at work, remember it is okay to ask more questions. Try to absorb all that you can on the first day itself. This would prove that you are more interested in your work and wish to learn at a faster pace. It’s always better to ask more questions than completing the tasks and making mistakes on the way. If you have any concerns, seek your supervisor’s help and ask HR about any company rules that you might be unaware of on your first day.

Take initiative

Even if you are the new guy, demonstrate that you can take initiative. It’s time to prove yourself of what you said you are capable of. Nothing makes a great first impression at work than taking initiatives. You may also suggest some ideas when asked of without stepping on anyone’s toes. Be diligent in your tasks and complete your tasks in the given time frame.

Avoid cliques and clashes

You may want to steer clear of any cliques and clashes on the first day. Don’t be too eager to be part of any office gossip. It’s not a great idea to make your first impression at work getting involved in any potential cliques and clashes. It is best to stay out of it.

Avoid any cellphone distraction at work on the first day

Resist the urge.

Your very first impression at work is very crucial for making your employer think that they didn’t make a wrong choice in hiring you. So, keep your phone usage to the minimum and keep personal business on the office time to a bare minimum. Attend calls on your break and stay away from social media at first.

Follow these tips and you are off to a great start to make a great first impression at work.
