Oil and Gas Digital WorkForce

Developing a digital workforce can really help solve certain business problems. There’s a good business case to be made for implementing a great digital workplace. However, it can get expensive and requires a commitment from employees to stay up-to-date.

There are few cost-effective ways to implement a great digital workplace in your company. One of the easiest ways is to offer paid development. In this scenario, employees who want to learn new technologies are paid a certain amount to complete assignments that will improve their skills. The employees often sign a good job agreement when signing on to receive these incentives. Even so, there are a variety of other ways to take care of employees’ digital needs. Here are four promising ideas that I’ve had in mind for a number of years:

  1. Pay your employees to stay digital

There are few employees who are not motivated to learn. They’re often afraid that they’ll get caught in a project that needs to be taken care of and the extra costs just might seem prohibitive. If you can afford the extra burden, it’s a good idea to implement incentives for employees who want to learn new skills.

If your company makes it possible for your employees to learn at home, you’re showing that you are a responsible employer. This kind of pays dividends: employees will grow with your company and will have a reason to stay connected when they go on leave.

  1. Don’t assume everyone knows their job well enough

Some employees might have technical skills that can’t be found in the job description. This is a very common scenario in many large companies where financial positions often require that employees know their job. However, those employees should already have the skills in some cases.

Lifelong learning may not have to be a paid incentive. A realistic fear that employees only know the job basics can lead to bad decisions that can make the whole company a little more unreliable. Even if employees show up to work looking like they know their work backward and forward, that doesn’t mean they’re getting the best projects or the best credits.

  1. Make your job descriptions smart and modern

You are in charge of hiring and promoting staff. You’re likely familiar with some of the technological solutions that power your organization. But you still may not have a clear picture of what your employees do and what they need to do to improve their skills. You should always look for a way to have more engaged employees.

Making job descriptions more modern could work as an early step to a better digital workplace. It will allow you to hire employees who know a great deal more than the current job descriptions.

  1. Ask for feedback

It doesn’t matter what kind of employee you hire, they’re going to need support after their stint at your company. You’ll want to find out what customers think about your services. Asking for feedback from your customers is almost a given these days; however, it can also help to discover the areas of your business where innovation needs to occur.

Putting together a great digital workplace comes with a number of costs. Employees need to regularly train themselves. However, if your company is taking the time to improve, it can be a big help.
